Patent Paralegal / Legal Assistant (Patent Experience Not Required)

Santangelo & Ressue Law Offices, P.C., a boutique intellectual property law firm in Northern Colorado, is seeking a full-time Patent Paralegal / Legal Assistant to join our team. Prior patent experience is preferred, but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate. We are looking for someone with strong legal administrative or paralegal skills who is highly organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and interested in learning patent prosecution.

What You'll Do: This position will primarily support our patent practice and attorneys with U.S. and international patent matters. Responsibilities will include:

• Preparing and filing patent applications and related documents with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
• Managing patent prosecution deadlines and maintaining an accurate docket
• Preparing USPTO forms, assignments, declarations, Information Disclosure Statements, and other patent-related documents
• Reviewing USPTO correspondence, identifying deadlines, and updating matter records
• Assisting with PCT and foreign patent filings and communications with foreign associates
• Communicating with clients
• Maintaining organized and accurate electronic client and matter files
• Providing administrative and paralegal support to attorneys

What We're Looking For:

• Has prior paralegal, legal assistant, or similar professional legal experience
• Has exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
• Is highly organized and comfortable managing multiple deadlines and priorities
• Has strong written and verbal communication skills
• Takes ownership of assignments and follows matters through to completion
• Is comfortable learning detailed procedures, rules, and new technology
• Is proficient with Microsoft Word, Adobe, Outlook, and standard office software
• Works well independently and as part of a small, collaborative team
• Understands the importance of confidentiality, responsiveness, and dependable follow-through

Experience with patent prosecution, USPTO Patent Center, intellectual property docketing systems, PCT filings, or foreign patent prosecution is a plus, but is not required. Most importantly, we are looking for someone with the aptitude and attention to detail necessary to learn patent prosecution. We will provide patent-specific training to the right candidate.

Position: Full-time

Location: Fort Collins, Colorado

Salary: $50,000–$80,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and directly relevant legal or intellectual property experience.
