Lead Journeyman Electrician

WCI Electric — Santa Clara, California

Full-Time | $50–$75 per hour, based on experience and responsibility

WCI Electric is looking for an experienced Lead Journeyman Electrician who wants more than just another job.

We are a small, owner-operated electrical contractor serving Silicon Valley. Our family’s construction roots date back to 1981, and WCI Electric was established in 2004. We have built long-term relationships by doing quality work, treating customers fairly, and standing behind what we install.

To be completely upfront, we are not a large electrical company with multiple layers of management. Ryan, the owner, is currently involved in the field and handles the day-to-day operation of the business. We are now looking for the right electrician to work directly alongside the owner, take ownership of projects, and help build the next stage of the company.

This could be a great opportunity for someone who is tired of being treated like a number and wants to become an important part of a growing company.

The Position

This is a hands-on leadership position for an experienced electrician who can run commercial service calls, tenant-improvement projects, and small-to-medium electrical installations.

Initially, you will work directly with the owner to learn our customers, standards, and way of operating. As trust is established, the goal is for you to independently manage projects, communicate with customers and contractors, and eventually help lead additional field employees as the company grows.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage commercial service calls and electrical projects
  • Lead commercial tenant-improvement and light construction work
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and equipment
  • Install and service panels, transformers, feeders, branch circuits, lighting, controls, EV chargers, and electrical equipment
  • Read and work from plans, specifications, and electrical drawings
  • Plan labor, materials, equipment, and jobsite requirements
  • Communicate professionally with customers, general contractors, inspectors, vendors, and other trades
  • Provide clear job updates, photographs, material records, and documentation
  • Identify change orders and communicate additional work before proceeding
  • Direct and mentor future electricians, apprentices, and helpers
  • Maintain clean, safe, organized, and professional jobsites
  • Perform occasional residential service and high-end residential work when needed

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone dependable, organized, and confident in the field—someone who takes pride in doing clean, code-compliant work and follows through on commitments.

The right person should be able to receive a scope of work, think through the installation, organize materials, communicate with the customer, and complete the job without needing constant supervision.

We understand that every electrician has different strengths. You do not have to know everything, but you must be experienced, honest about what you know, willing to communicate, and committed to doing the job correctly.

Qualifications

  • Current California General Electrician Certification
  • At least five years of journeyman-level experience; 10 or more years preferred
  • Strong commercial service, troubleshooting, and tenant-improvement experience
  • Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions
  • Working knowledge of the NEC and applicable local codes
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills
  • Professional appearance and attitude
  • Quality- and detail-oriented
  • Dependable attendance and follow-through
  • Valid California driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to our insurance provider
  • Ability to safely operate a company service vehicle

Compensation and Opportunity

  • $50–$75 per hour, based on experience, productivity, leadership ability, and level of responsibility
  • Full-time, Monday through Friday
  • Overtime and optional weekend opportunities
  • Performance-based compensation opportunities
  • Company service vehicle for the appropriate qualified candidate
  • Company power tools and necessary equipment
  • Health-benefit options
  • Paid holidays
  • Steady commercial and service work
  • Direct access to the owner without layers of management
  • Opportunity to grow into a senior field-lead or operations position
  • Opportunity to help shape the field team as the company grows

The higher end of the pay range is intended for someone who can truly operate as a senior lead or right-hand field person—running projects, representing the company, coordinating customers and crews, and helping take responsibility for field operations.

Work Area

Our shop is located in Santa Clara, and most of our work is throughout Silicon Valley and the greater San Jose area. This is an in-person field position.
