Architectural Designer – Residential Construction

Location: Auburn, AL

A growing, privately owned homebuilder with a strong reputation for quality, a stable team, and a commitment to doing things right is looking for a hands-on Architectural Designer who understands residential construction from the drawing board to the jobsite.

More than a plan management position, you’ll draft and revise floor plans and elevations, develop framing layouts, and maintain the company’s residential plan library, ensuring plans are accurate, buildable, and ready for production. Working closely with architects, structural engineers, and internal teams, you’ll catch issues before they become costly field problems and identify opportunities to improve design, efficiency, and value.

If you enjoy the technical side of drafting and understand how homes are designed, priced, and built, this role offers the opportunity to take ownership of your work and make a meaningful impact across a growing portfolio of residential communities.

Responsibilities

  • Design & Draft: Draft and revise residential floor plans and elevations using 3D CAD software, preferably Revit.
  • Framing & Plan Review: Develop framing layouts and review plans for code compliance, buildability, and cost efficiency.
  • Plan Library & Revisions: Maintain approved plan sets, track revisions, and coordinate updates and approvals.
  • Cross-Department Coordination: Align plans with estimating, purchasing, sales, marketing, and construction; support vendor pricing, deadlines, and quantity takeoffs.
  • Consultant Coordination & Quality Control: Coordinate with architects and engineers, resolve plan conflicts, and verify jobsite compliance with approved plans.

Requirements

  • Homebuilder experience or familiarity with repeatable residential plan libraries
  • Knowledge of residential framing, structural systems, construction details, and lumber takeoffs
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD/design software; Revit preferred.
  • Hands-on experience drafting wood-frame residential construction plans.
  • Degree in architecture, drafting/CAD, construction management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.

Salary: $75,000–$100,000 annually, plus incentives

Benefits: 100% paid health insurance, Dental & Vision, Life Insurance PTO & 401K w/ 4% match
