ISAC provides advocacy, education, and support to its members, including elected and appointed county officials. The organization collaborates closely with state and federal entities to enhance local governance. Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role located in West Des Moines, IA, for the Director of Government Relations. The Director will lead efforts in advocating on behalf of ISAC and its members to state and federal legislators and agencies. Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing legislation, preparing reports and position statements, lobbying for ISAC’s legislative priorities, building relationships with stakeholders, and providing guidance on governmental and legislative matters to members of ISAC. The Director will be instrumental in advancing the strategic advocacy goals of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work with areas such as Governmental Affairs and Government Relations
  • Expertise in Lobbying and Legislative Relations
  • Knowledge of Legislation, including drafting and analysis
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration with stakeholders
  • Proven leadership and project management skills
  • Ability to effectively represent ISAC and its members in diverse governmental settings
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Law, or a relevant field (advanced degree preferred)
  • Previous experience in legislative, governmental, or advocacy roles is highly desirable

Compensation

The starting salary for the new ISAC Director of Government Relations is $120,000. Other benefits include health, dental, life, and accident insurance, vacation and sick leave benefits, retirement plans with employer contributions, among other optional benefits.
