6D Helmets LLC is seeking a hands-on Product Development Engineer to help design, develop, test, and bring advanced helmet products from concept through production. This is an opportunity to join an innovation-driven company dedicated to advancing brain protection for powersports and cycling athletes through proprietary Omni-Directional Suspension (ODS) technology, engineering, and real-world product development.

About 6D Helmets

Founded in 2011, 6D Helmets develops advanced helmet technology designed to reduce impact energy transferred to the brain during crash impacts. Our patented Omni-Directional Suspension technology is a leading impact-mitigation solution used across our motorcycle and cycling helmets. 6D is also the inventor of the Max Goggle, a safer eye-protection system designed to integrate with our helmets seemlessly.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.

· 3+ years of consumer product development, mechanical engineering, or safety-product engineering experience.

· Strong background in mechanical engineering, product design, and R&D for physical products or complex component systems.

· Strong CAD skills; SolidWorks surfacing experience preferred.

· Ability to prepare engineering drawings, manage CAD data, and maintain organized technical documentation.

· Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to interpret test data, perform engineering calculations, troubleshoot design challenges, and support performance optimization.

· Working knowledge of plastics, textiles, injection molding, material properties, and manufacturing processes.

· Familiarity with impact testing, helmet or protective equipment standards, validation processes, or safety-related product development is highly beneficial.

· Fabrication and prototyping skills, including rapid prototyping and 3D printing knowledge.

· Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills, with genuine interest in powersports and cycling helmets, goggles, and eye protection.

Responsibilities

· Develop motorcycle and bicycle helmet designs from 2D concepts into detailed 3D CAD models and production-ready components.

· Collaborate with internal teams to define product requirements, support new technology development, and solve engineering challenges.

· Design mechanical systems, joints, dampers, liner structures, and helmet component assemblies.

· Support R&D through prototyping, engineering analysis, FEA simulation, impact testing, data acquisition, and test data review.

· Assist with validation testing, data collection, and performance reporting to confirm compliance with applicable safety standards and internal performance targets.

· Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to sample, refine, commercialize, and improve product designs.

· Plan, schedule, and track engineering projects through the full development cycle to keep milestones and timelines on target.

· Visit manufacturing facilities as needed to evaluate feasibility, understand processes, strengthen vendor relationships, and support project completion.

· Manage CAD files, engineering drawings, project schedules, testing records, and related product development documentation.

· Contribute to continuous improvement of existing products, materials research, manufacturing processes, and future product innovation aligned with 6D’s mission of enhanced brain protection.
