JOB TITLE: Lead Regional Gleaner
REPORTS TO: Director of Digital and Community Engagement, Executive Director
STATUS: Full-time, $18 - 20/hour, health benefits
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Lead Regional Gleaner is responsible for overseeing the organization’s gleaning operation in the Commonwealth. This position will work with and support growers, grocers, volunteers, and recipients to maximize efficiency and efficacy, while helping to analyze and solve challenges as they arise. The Lead Regional Gleaner will maintain strong relationships with constituents of Glean Kentucky to expand and promote the programming goals of the organization. They will work in collaboration with the Resource Development Coordinator.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Glean Kentucky’s gleaning efforts within the Commonwealth by performing the following duties with the support of the Resource Development Coordinator:
- Collaborate with the Resource Development Coordinator to pick up and deliver donated fruits and vegetables on a daily basis.
- Lead groups of volunteers during gleaning events.
- Ensure the needs of all involved in the gleaning process are met.
- Follow food safety policies and procedures.
- The position requires a Lexington-based presence, with frequent travel throughout the surrounding service areas, including Louisville and the North Central Region.
- Assist with last minute gleaning requests and volunteer no-shows.
- Maintain gleaning records and volunteer databases in collaboration with the Resource Development Coordinator.
- Emphasis on dependability, relationship-building with partners, clear communication, and accurate record-keeping.
- Support the Resource Development Coordinator’s efforts towards recruitment, training, assignment, and recognition of volunteers.
- Support the Resource Development Coordinator’s efforts towards creating and maintaining partnerships with growers, grocers, and recipients interested in Glean Kentucky.
- Participate in community and other groups working on hunger, local food, and other related issues in a professional manner consistent with the image and mission of Glean Kentucky service area as requested.
- Engage in regular communication and planning with Glean Kentucky staff.
- Prepare monthly gleaning reports.
- Maintain timely telephone and email communications to ensure awareness of issues and needs pertinent to gleaning activities.
- Work with the Executive Director, the Director of Digital and Community Engagement, and the Resource Development Coordinator implement strategic goals and objectives throughout Glean Kentucky's service area.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required
- Bachelor’s degree (equivalent experience considered).
- Experience with volunteer management and coordination.
- Experience working effectively with a diverse group of people.
- Computer proficiency including word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
- Successful completion of a background check, driving record check, and DOT physical is required upon hire.
Preferred
- Experience working in Central Kentucky’s and North Central’s local food system.
- At least two years’ experience with volunteer management and coordination.
