Our client, a leading hotel and hospitality organization, is looking for a Senior Managing Content Editor to join their team immediately to oversee a large content refresh project, as well as potentially join their team on a freelance to full time basis.

\In order to be considered for the freelance to full time opportunity, you must be local or commutable to Scottsdale, AZ and able to work onsite 3-4 days per week.\

This role serves as the strategic leader of organizations editorial content function, responsible for shaping and driving the vision, quality, and performance of written content across their .com, brand sites, and third-party channels. The position oversees a growing team of writers and editors, elevating editorial excellence, strengthening brand voice consistency, and ensuring all content directly supports the company's organic search, conversion, and brand-building objectives. This leader partners cross-functionally across SEO, UX, Product, Brand, Loyalty, and external agencies to deliver best-in-class hotel, destination, and brand content that enhances engagement, supports revenue goals, and positions the company as an authoritative travel publisher.

You will manage a team of 4 contractors as well as agency partners, initially focused on a large content refresh currently in motion. Additional responsibilities include:

Strategic Editorial Leadership

  • Define and evolve the editorial strategy and roadmap, ensuring content aligns with marketing, brand, SEO, and business priorities.
  • Develop scalable editorial frameworks, style guides, and content processes that improve quality, consistency, and efficiency.
  • Oversee content performance analytics and use insights to refine strategy and optimize for organic search, engagement, and conversion.
  • Champion editorial excellence across the organization, influencing stakeholders and establishing the company as a leader in travel storytelling.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of contractor writers building a culture of creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear performance expectations, provide advanced editorial coaching, and create growth pathways for expanding team capabilities.
  • Oversee resource planning to ensure the team can support both high-volume and strategic content demands.
  • Introduce training programs that enhance SEO writing skillsets, editorial quality, and brand voice expertise.
  • Agency, Vendor & Cross Functional Collaboration
  • Lead editorial direction for third-party content production partners, ensuring storytelling quality, brand alignment, and efficient workflows.
  • Own the long-term editorial calendar across all internal and external contributors, ensuring content production supports business goals and maximizes exposure across channels.
  • Act as a senior point of contact for agency relationships, directing creative decision-making and ensuring accountability for outcomes.

Content Innovation & Brand Publisher Development

  • Identify emerging trends in travel content, hospitality marketing, SEO, and user behavior to inform new content formats, approaches, and opportunities.
  • Champion the adoption of AI technologies to streamline content creation, personalization, and optimization
  • Identify emerging AI tools and lead training initiatives to upskill the team.
  • Drive initiatives that position the company as a travel content leader, expanding editorial offerings beyond hotel descriptions to include thought leadership, destination storytelling, loyalty content, and brand-building narratives.
  • Lead experimentation with new tools, AI-assisted content workflows, and multimedia storytelling to diversify formats and improve efficiency.

Operational Excellence & Quality Management

  • Oversee workflows, governance, and quality assurance processes to ensure content meets high editorial standards, brand voice guidelines, and accessibility requirements.
  • Partner with translation/localization, UX, SEO, and product teams to enhance content substance, structure, search performance, and customer experience.
  • Establish metrics, dashboards, and review cycles for content quality, production efficiency, and business impact.

Requirements to be considered include:

  • Bachelor s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5-7+ years of professional writing, content strategy, or communications experience with a strong portfolio of digital content.
  • 3-5+ years leading editorial teams or managing writers/editors; experience managing agencies or large-scale content operations strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record driving organic search growth, content strategy, or brand storytelling for a large consumer-facing digital brand.
  • Strong understanding of AI tools including Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.
  • Deep expertise in SEO principles, keyword strategy, and search-driven content optimization.
  • Strong proficiency with content management systems (e.g., Oracle WebCenter Sites or similar), workflow tools, and analytics platforms.
  • Solid understanding of HTML, metadata, accessibility guidelines, and digital content publishing best practices.
  • Advanced editorial judgment with exceptional writing/editing skills under tight deadlines and high-volume environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, drive process improvements, and build trust with cross-functional partners.
  • Strong operational mindset with experience managing complex editorial calendars, production pipelines, and content governance.
  • Ability to translate business goals into actionable content strategies and measurable outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Hospitality, travel, or destination content experience is a big plus
  • Experience working within multi-brand environments or supporting loyalty
