Position Overview

The Transformer Power Technician performs repairs and maintenance on power transformers with minimal supervision. In this role, the Power Technician leads diagnostic efforts and delivers effective repair solutions.

Key Responsibilities

General Duties

  • Perform repairs and maintenance on power transformers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with testing standards, safety requirements, and documentation practices.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to communicate project progress and results.
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the department.
  • May perform welding duties.

Qualifications

  • Typically 1–2 years of experience in transformer work or a closely related field.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program or equivalent hands-on experience in transformer/electro-mechanical system is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of transformer construction, testing methods, and repair procedures is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to persevere through challenges and setbacks.
  • Commitment to safety practices and industry regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift heavy components up to 50 lbs.
  • Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy materials.
  • Ability to stand, climb, push, pull, crouch, or kneel for extended periods.

Work Environment

  • Shop environment with exposure to mechanical and environmental hazards and varying temperatures.
  • Work area may be very noisy and may require earplugs.
