Job Overview

Library Assistants (classification I) provide a range of Circulation services including check-in, check-out of materials, and management of course reserves. Provides ‘ready reference’ or first-tier reference support, assists in creation and updating of Library Course Guides, performs light cataloging, or technical interface between library systems. Additional duties as assigned.

Responsibilities ii

  • Monitor circulation desk, answer phone, respond to general email inbox, and assist patrons by providing a range of Circulation services using a variety of library software and systems.
  • Maintain patron usage statistics.
  • Monitor and respond to basic library questions in the library’s HelpDesk ticket system, referring patrons to appropriate library employees when necessary.
  • Assist with Course Guide creation and updates, library displays, and/or staff calendars.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by the Library Director, which may include light cataloging, technical interfacing with library systems, and/or help document/tutorial design.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Prior work experience in a professional setting required. Library experience preferred.
  • Preference for organizing and working with information and data.
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
  • Effective team player.
  • Ability to maintain focus and complete work while experiencing ongoing interruptions.

Hours

  • Part-time, 15-20 hours per week.

Physical Requirements

Requires moderate physical effort and the ability to comfortably lift up to 15 pounds. Must be available to work onsite in Dallas, Texas.
