Excelsior Defense, Inc. is seeking a dependable and professional
Unarmed Security Officer for a demanding commercial high-rise assignment in downtown St. Petersburg.
This is not a stationary "sit-down" security position. The assigned officer must be capable of independently managing multiple responsibilities, following detailed operating procedures, maintaining strong situational awareness, and representing both Excelsior Defense and the client with professionalism at all times.
Schedule - 40 Hours Per Week
- Tuesday: 1500-2300
- Wednesday: 1500-2300
- Saturday: 1500-2300
- Sunday: 2300-0700
- Monday: 2300-0700
Primary Duties
- Maintain a visible and professional security presence in the main lobby.
- Monitor CCTV systems and remain alert for suspicious activity, unauthorized access, safety hazards, and unusual conditions.
- Conduct detailed interior and exterior foot patrols throughout the shift.
- Patrol all 16 floors, stairwells, restrooms, designated office suites, retail areas, courtyard, alleyways, rooftop areas, and all four levels of the parking garage.
- Secure and unlock lobby doors, sliding doors, stairwell doors, tenant areas, gates, fences, and other designated access points according to the shift schedule.
- Inspect mechanical and operational areas, including generator rooms, water pumps, compressors, cooling equipment, elevator rooms, and rooftop access points.
- Complete electronic patrol scans at designated checkpoints.
- Identify and immediately report water leaks, equipment concerns, fire-panel conditions, unsecured doors, lighting issues, and other maintenance or safety deficiencies.
- Challenge suspicious or unauthorized individuals using professional communication and sound judgment.
- Address loitering, trespassing, disruptive behavior, and property-rule violations through verbal direction, de-escalation, observation, and notification procedures.
- Contact law enforcement or emergency services when required without unnecessarily escalating the situation.
- Assist tenants, visitors, contractors, and parking-garage customers in a courteous and professional manner.
- Complete accurate Daily Activity Reports and detailed Incident Reports using the assigned site technology.
- Maintain accountability for keys, radios, the site telephone, the reporting tablet, and other assigned equipment.
- Receive and document lost property using proper chain-of-custody procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and operationally ready security workstation.
- Provide a complete shift briefing and remain on post until properly relieved.
The assigned officer must be proactive, organized, alert, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities without constant supervision.
Requirements
- Valid Florida Class "D" Security Officer License.
- Reliable transportation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to use smartphones, tablets, CCTV, and electronic reporting systems.
- Ability to walk multiple floors and remain active throughout the shift.
- Prior commercial property, high-rise, or access-control experience preferred.
Professionalism, attendance, punctuality, and accurate reporting are absolute requirements.
