Senior Buyer - Aerospace

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Buyer with proven experience in the aerospace industry to join our global procurement team. The Senior Buyer will lead strategic sourcing and supplier management activities for assigned categories, drive cost reduction and value engineering initiatives, ensure timely delivery of materials and services, and maintain compliance with procurement policies and aerospace regulations. This role requires strong negotiation skills, deep knowledge of aerospace supply chains, hands-on experience with ERP and eProcurement systems, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, quality, logistics, and finance functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end procurement activities for assigned aerospace categories, including strategic sourcing, category planning, and RFx management (RFI/RFP/RFQ).
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies that optimize Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), increase supplier value, and deliver measurable cost savings and risk mitigation.
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance through Supplier Performance Management programs, KPIs, scorecards, and regular business reviews; conduct supplier audits as needed.
  • Negotiate commercial terms and contracts, manage contract lifecycle and ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company procurement policies.
  • Process and manage purchase orders (PO) and requisitions accurately and on time using ERP/eProcurement systems (PeopleSoft, Oracle Purchasing, SAP MM, Jaggaer, Coupa, Ariba).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, manufacturing, logistics, and finance) to align procurement decisions with production schedules, MRP/demand forecasts, and inventory targets.
  • Perform spend analysis, supplier risk assessments, and vendor risk management to identify opportunities for consolidation, cost avoidance, and continuity of supply.
  • Support import/export compliance, incoterms application, logistics and freight management activities, and coordination with customs and global transportation partners.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Procurement and Six Sigma methodologies to streamline procurement processes and improve cycle times.
  • Maintain accurate procurement data, develop and report KPIs and dashboards using Advanced Excel, Tableau, Power BI, and SQL for data analysis and stakeholder reporting.
  • Ensure procurement compliance with aerospace regulatory requirements and internal policies, including documentation control and audit readiness.
  • Mentor and collaborate with junior procurement staff and contribute to knowledge sharing and best practices across the procurement organization.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Senior Buyer or Senior Procurement professional in the aerospace industry (required).
  • Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Finance, or related field; advanced degree or MBA is a plus.
  • 5+ years of progressive procurement experience with responsibility for strategic sourcing, category management, and supplier management within aerospace or highly regulated industries.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP and eProcurement systems such as PeopleSoft, Oracle Purchasing, SAP MM, Jaggaer, Coupa, and Ariba; strong familiarity with PO processing and RFx workflows.
  • Demonstrated expertise in contract negotiation and contract management, including working knowledge of incoterms and import/export compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, Macros), experience with Tableau and Power BI, and ability to use SQL for data analysis and spend analytics.
  • Experience with MRP, demand forecasting, inventory management, warehouse management systems (WMS), and logistics/freight operations.
  • Experience with Supplier Performance Management, supplier audits, vendor risk management, and quality/supply continuity practices.
  • Familiarity with Lean Procurement and Six Sigma methodologies; certification (Six Sigma, CPSM, CSCP) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills; proven ability to influence at all levels.
  • Strong problem-solving orientation, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
