Job Overview

Well-established diesel repair shop seeking an EXPERIENCED Head Mechanic/Shop Foreman to lead day-to-day operations. This is a hands-on leadership role for a skilled Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic who can manage workflow, mentor a team, and handle complex diagnostics.

Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic/Shop Foreman Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the heavy duty diesel repair team, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all service work
  • Prioritize and assign daily work orders
  • Diagnose complex issues using diesel diagnostic tools and schematics, including systems such as engine, electrical, and transmissions
  • Oversee repairs on Tractor Trailers, including heavy duty diesel engines, powertrain components, and heavy-duty systems, ensuring adherence to manufacturer specifications
  • Interpret wiring diagrams and schematics to troubleshoot electrical problems effectively
  • Manage tractor trailer & trailer maintenance schedules, perform engine repairs, alignments, welding, and auto body repairs as needed
  • Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety protocols related to heavy lifting, manual handling, and the use of power tools and welding equipment
  • Train and support junior mechanics
  • Participate in on call rotation for after-hours/night emergencies

Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic/Shop Foreman Skills

  • 7 + years of diesel repair experience (Heavy Duty preferred)
  • Prior foreman or leadership experience is strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with heavy duty diesel diagnostic tools and ability to interpret electrical systems diagrams
  • Solid mechanical knowledge in heavy duty diesel engine repair, powertrain maintenance, wheel alignment, and auto body work
  • Ability to manage a team and workflow
  • Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and automotive repair machinery
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing a team of technicians while fostering a collaborative work environment
  • Excellent communication skills to provide clear instructions to team members and deliver outstanding customer service
  • MUST BE AVAILABLE for night/on call emergency work
  • Valid driver's license (CDL a plus)
