Beyond Blindness is a California Nonprofit Corporation founded in 1962 whose mission is to empower children with visual
impairments and other disabilities to achieve their fullest potential. We envision a world where all children, no matter
their abilities, are equipped to live full and rewarding lives.
Beyond Blindness is the only organization of its kind in Southern California that provides all the support and services —
outside of medical care — that children with visual impairments and other disabilities need to develop to their highest
potential and live fulfilling lives. Beyond Blindness is a one-stop support resource for these children, and their families,
and provides services in clients’ homes, at its location in Santa Ana, and in schools throughout Orange County.
Position Summary
The Summer Camp Lead is responsible for creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging camp environment for young children,
aged 3-10, with special needs and disabilities. This role oversees daily camp activities, supports campers with varying
physical, developmental, behavioral, and emotional needs, and provides leadership to camp volunteers. The Camp Lead
promotes positive social interaction, encourages participation, and ensures all campers receive compassionate,
individualized support while maintaining safety and program quality. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong
leadership, patience, teamwork, and a passion for supporting individuals of all abilities in a fun and empowering camp
experience.

Responsibilities
- Overseeing the safety and engagement of assigned camp group
- Assist in leading daily camp activities, including recreational games, arts and crafts, field trips, and adaptive
programming
- Oversee assigned volunteers to camp group to ensure quality camper support
- Assist campers with daily living needs, mobility support, communication, and personal care when required
- Maintain clear communication with Beyond Blindness staff regarding camper needs and progress as well as
curriculum and program implementation
- Foster a positive, respectful, and welcoming camp culture for campers, volunteers and staff
- Support conflict resolution and encourage teamwork, independence, and confidence among campers
- Ensure camp facilities, equipment, and activity areas remain clean, organized, and accessible

Licensing and Accreditation Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older to apply

- LiveScan Fingerprint clearance and background check - DOJ/FBI/Child Abuse Index (Out of Pocket Cost)
- Health Screening (one time or upon re-hire)
- Proof of immunity to Measles or MMR Vaccination Record (one time)
- Flu Vaccine within one year (and each year thereafter)
- TDAP Vaccine within last 10 years (and every 10 years thereafter)
- Current COVID-19 Vaccine (fully vaccinated)
- Clear TB test or Chest X-ray within last 4 years (and every 4 years thereafter)
- Current up-to-date Credentials, License, Certifications for employment
