The Front of House Manager oversees Front of House operations for events occurring at the Music Academy, working closely with other staff to ensure successful, polished event flow. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on customer service, personnel management, and operations experience working closely with Academy administration and patrons. This position reports to the Director of Guest Services.

Position Responsibilities

House Management

  • Responsible for coordinating and overseeing all Front of House operations during a performance
  • Coordinates with Back of House staff to ensure all aspects of the performance are running smoothly, including audience ingress and egress
  • Coordinates with Ticket Office staff to ensure all seating needs are met
  • Ensures program book sheets, program books, inserts, and sponsor recognition assets are available at each event
  • Prepares for unexpected occurrences and serves as primary contact in case of emergency
  • Supervises volunteer ushers during events and reports any performance issues to the Director of Guest Services

Customer Service

  • Sets the standard for attentive, courteous, and sincere customer service – both for internal and external clients
  • Maintains professional, polite, and positive presentation at all times
  • Receives and resolves any questions or customer service issues
  • Handles lost-and-found items

Other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

  • Schedule varies greatly week to week during our off-season September-May based on events productions schedule.
  • Non-summer shifts are primarily evenings and weekends with varying hours from week to week.

Compensation And Benefits

This is a non-exempt, part-time position. Compensation is $19-22 per hour, commensurate with skills and experience. Part-time employees are not eligible for Music Academy benefits unless required by law. Complimentary tickets are offered when available.

The mission of the Music Academy of the West is to educate musicians through intensive study with exceptional teachers and transformative performance opportunities, while broadening access to musical experiences for the Santa Barbara community.

Year-round programs include Sing!, a youth choir that performs with local, national, and international partners; and the Mariposa Concert Series, featuring Academy-affiliated artists. Each summer, the Festival showcases more than 100 performances and events, including masterclasses, competitions, and a fully staged opera. The 2027 Summer Music Festival & School will run June–August, 2027. The complete performance lineup for the Festival will be unveiled in early 2027.
