Centorr Vacuum Industries is a leading manufacturer of high-temperature vacuum and controlled atmosphere furnaces, with more than 7,000 units installed worldwide. The company offers a broad range of furnace systems, from large commercial and production units with hot zones over 3m x 3m to compact lab and R&D furnaces capable of operating above 3200°C. Located in Nashua, NH, Centorr maintains a fully staffed Aftermarket Field Service group that supports customers throughout the lifecycle of their equipment. An in-house Applied Technology Center provides R&D support and toll production services, giving team members access to advanced applications and process development.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Field Service Technician role based in Nashua, NH. The Field Service Technician will install, commission, and maintain high-temperature vacuum and controlled atmosphere furnaces at customer locations and within the company’s facilities. Responsibilities include troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and control system issues; performing routine and preventive maintenance; and conducting equipment inspections and adjustments to ensure reliable, safe operation. The role involves reading and interpreting technical drawings and manuals, preparing concise service reports, and communicating findings and recommendations to customers and internal teams. The technician will also support the Aftermarket Field Service group with spare parts identification, customer training, and occasional R&D or test activities with the Applied Technology Center.
Qualifications
- Hands-on mechanical skills for assembly, disassembly, and repair of industrial equipment, including experience with vacuum systems or thermal processing equipment.
- Electrical and electronics skills, such as working with control panels, sensors, wiring, and basic PLC or control system troubleshooting.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities, including the use of standard test instruments and systematic problem-solving methods.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, including mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with customers, documenting service work, and collaborating with internal teams.
- Comfort working in industrial environments, following safety protocols, and adhering to company and customer procedures.
- Relevant technical education or training in mechanical, electrical, or industrial technology; prior experience in field service or industrial equipment maintenance is highly beneficial.
- Organizational and time-management skills to handle service schedules, travel planning, and prioritization of tasks.
- Ability to lift and move equipment components as required for service work and to stand or work on-site for extended periods.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- 1-5 years minimum experience in any of the following: electrical/mechanical technician, pipe fitting or electrical journeyman or a combination of work experience and the successful completion vocational school
- Ability to travel extensively, approximately 70% is required
- Experience with Commercial HVAC/Refrigeration systems and components is a plus
- Electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills a must.
- PLC controls knowledge highly preferred
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Proficient with Microsoft applications
