Job Summary

This position serves as a frontline representative of the Office of Undergraduate Admission and Recruitment and is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and enrollment support to prospective students, families, counselors, and campus stakeholders. The position assists students throughout the admissions and enrollment process by responding to inquiries, providing admissions guidance, supporting campus visits and recruitment events, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures.

Job Duties

The Undergraduate Admission Enrollment Specialist is responsible for providing student-centered enrollment assistance to students. They will assist students, parents, high school counselors, and others as they navigate the application and enrollment process. This includes answering questions in person, via the internet, email, U.S. mail, or by phone regarding admission requirements, application processing, scheduling campus visits, policies and procedures related to admissions and other student services, and referring students and stakeholders to appropriate college resources. They are expected to maintain awareness and a general understanding of departments and resources within the college and respond to questions about Morgan State University, Baltimore City, and its proximity to the surrounding states.

Specialists are expected to participate in training to ensure quality control of the enrollment team. They will work closely with Bear Essentials, the Admission Counselor for Visitor Services, the Admissions Operations team, and the Assistant Director of Admissions for Marketing and Communications to support the customer service standards of the office and enrollment management division. This is a critical role and reports directly to the Director of Undergraduate Admission and Recruitment within the Office of Undergraduate Admission and Recruitment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Enrollment Management, Undergraduate Admissions and Operations Support
    • Provides critical frontline support for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Recruitment through a variety of customer service interactions (phone calls, email, walk-ins).
    • Acts as the first point of contact for prospective students and their families. While also serving as the initial point of contact for admissions-related inquiries from students, staff, and third parties.
    • Provides excellent customer service to help meet overall Enrollment Management goals.
    • Learns and maintains working knowledge of the Undergraduate Admissions process as it pertains to all student types
    • Interprets and explains a wide range of university and governmental policies and procedures involving admission-related inquiries on various media of communications
    • Collaborates with peers and professionals across campus to provide a positive transition for high school students and transfer students to Morgan State.
    • Utilizes analytical skills by evaluating current procedures and determining effectiveness through the use of data and research.
    • Serves as an information resource to prospective students and their families, as well as campus stakeholders
    • Ensures proper packaging and mailing of admissions materials.
    • Uses critical thinking skills to troubleshoot applicant inquiries while analyzing barriers that may arise in the process. Identifies and resolves complex issues in accordance with
    • Admissions policies and procedures.
    • Maintains data and student information confidentiality in accordance with FERPA.
    • Maintains a positive attitude in an ever-evolving workplace.
    • Provides honest and constructive critique to develop a team environment.
    • During peak application processing times, specialists may provide support to the Admissions Operations team.
    • Completes ad hoc projects and responsibilities related to admissions, which may include providing campus visit presentations, campus tours, attending local college fairs and high school visits.

Requested Minimum Qualifications Work Environment

  • This is a fast-paced, high-volume operation; team collaboration and management are essential to the success of the role.
  • It may require weekend and evening hours to provide support to the undergraduate recruitment and operations teams.
  • This position maintains an office on campus and is expected to report to that location daily.
  • Scheduled work hours are from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • This position reports directly to the Director of Undergraduate Admission and Recruitment within the Office of Undergraduate Admission and Recruitment.

Required Experience

  • 1-2 years of customer service experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Experience in college admissions, student recruitment, business call centers, or similar fields is desired but not necessary.
  • Basic FERPA knowledge and compliance.
