Overview

We are seeking a Field Service Technician to support the testing, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical power distribution equipment throughout Northern California.

This position is ideal for candidates with experience in electrical testing, field service, commissioning, substation maintenance, industrial electrical systems, or military power generation and distribution programs. You will work with low, medium, and high-voltage equipment and play a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of customer electrical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Perform testing, inspection, startup, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical power systems ranging from low voltage through high-voltage applications.

Test and maintain switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, relays, MCCs, and associated power distribution equipment.

Conduct preventive maintenance, acceptance testing, and commissioning activities on electrical equipment and systems.

Perform insulation testing, relay testing, cable testing, infrared inspections, and transformer diagnostics.

Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues and recommend corrective actions.

Collect, analyze, and document testing data and prepare clear technical reports.

Utilize electrical testing equipment and follow established testing procedures and standards.

Respond to customer service calls and participate in emergency response or on-call rotations as needed.

Maintain compliance with all safety procedures, regulations, and industry standards.

Work closely with customers, project teams, and management to deliver high-quality service and support.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

Minimum 1+ years of experience in electrical field service, electrical testing, commissioning, maintenance, power systems, industrial electrical work, utilities, or a related field.

Working knowledge of electrical theory and power distribution systems.

Understanding of OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and electrical safety standards.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documents.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer-based reporting systems.

Ability to travel and work occasional overtime when required.

Preferred Qualifications

NETA Certification (Level II, III, or IV).

Experience leading projects, mentoring junior technicians, or coordinating field activities.

Experience with electrical testing on systems up to 230kV or higher.

Protective relay testing

Transformer testing and diagnostics

Circuit breaker testing and maintenance

Medium- and high-voltage switchgear

Cable testing

Infrared thermography

Power factor testing (Doble or similar equipment)

Substation commissioning and startup activities

Military electrical power experience, including Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, Navy electrical systems, or related programs.
