Company Description

True North of Columbia Inc. is Boone County’s only emergency shelter and comprehensive supportive services program for survivors of intimate partner domestic violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and stalking. The organization provides a 24/7 safe haven for approximately 800 survivors each year, operates a crisis hotline serving over 4,500 individuals, and offers more than 16,000 support services annually. Services are delivered at both the emergency shelter and advocacy center and include counseling, crisis intervention, court advocacy, educational programs, support groups, children’s activities, and parenting workshops. Staff members walk alongside survivors with empathy and respect, fostering empowerment and supporting individuals in building fulfilling, self-directed lives. Role Description

The Survivor Support Advocate is responsible for providing trauma-informed, client-centered advocacy to individuals impacted by intimate partner domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking, and sex trafficking. In this role, you'll provide trauma-informed advocacy, crisis intervention, and safety planning for people accessing True North's services, often serving as someone's first point of contact on their path toward safety and stability.

What You Bring

-Education or experience in human services, social work, or a related field — or equivalent lived/professional experience with domestic and sexual violence advocacy

-An understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, sexual violence, and trauma, with sensitivity to survivors' needs

-Strong crisis intervention, communication, and problem-solving skills

-Ability to maintain confidentiality and stay calm, patient, and steady under pressure

-Comfortable working independently and collaborating with a team

-Valid driver's license preferred
