Schedule

Part-time/Full-time position based on operational requirements. Work will be performed Monday through Friday during Kirtland Aquatic Center operating hours of 5:30 AM to 6:30 PM. Federal holidays are normally excluded unless otherwise requested.

Summary

The Lifeguard will provide continuous supervision of swimmers and ensure a safe aquatic environment at the Kirtland Aquatic Center. The position is responsible for monitoring pool activities, enforcing safety rules, responding to emergencies, performing rescue operations, assisting with daily facility checks, and maintaining required operational records.

Requirements

  • Previous lifeguarding, aquatic safety, or customer service experience preferred
  • Current Lifeguarding/Water Rescue certification
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English
  • Ability to successfully complete swimming proficiency testing, including:
    • 300-yard continuous swim
    • Two-minute water tread
    • Deep-water brick retrieval test
  • Ability to successfully complete base access requirements, background investigation, and DBIDS/CAC processing
  • Ability to complete required safety and facility training
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively during emergency situations
  • Must maintain professional appearance and reliable attendance

Duties

  • Monitor swimmers continuously from assigned lifeguard stations
  • Provide immediate rescue assistance during aquatic emergencies
  • Perform CPR, AED, and first aid response when required
  • Activate emergency response procedures when necessary
  • Enforce pool rules and promote safe swimmer behavior
  • Assist patrons and provide professional customer service
  • Conduct daily safety inspections of rescue and emergency equipment
  • Complete required pool safety and operational logs
  • Perform water quality checks and report issues to management
  • Assist with pool vacuuming, drain/skimmer checks, and facility cleanliness
  • Sanitize equipment and maintain an orderly pool environment
  • Maintain accurate patron sign-in records
  • Report safety concerns, damaged equipment, or operational issues
  • Support daily pool operations and readiness requirements
