Student - Lamkin Research Asst (Law)

Responsibilities
- Draft, serve, and track open-records requests to medical examiners' offices, county officials, and jails, and organize the resulting records.
- Maintain and update the project's case database, including request/response deadlines and case status.
- Locate next of kin and other potential witnesses through public records, obituaries, and people-search tools, and compile contact information.
- Conduct legal research on relevant statutes and case law (state open-records laws and other issues).
- Review autopsy reports, incident reports, and related documents to help assess and prioritize cases.
- Assist with interview preparation and other tasks as the project develops.
Qualifications
- Current University of Tulsa law student (any year).
- Highly motivated and highly organized.
- Discretion, confidentiality, professionalism, and the sensitivity required to work with grieving families and handle difficult subject matter.
- Interest in civil rights, criminal justice, or public-interest work.
- Familiarity with open-records/FOIA practice and comfort with spreadsheets or databases are a plus, but not required.
