Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our construction team. The Estimator will prepare accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for commercial and residential projects across preconstruction and bidding phases. This role requires strong knowledge of drywall and general construction trades, the ability to analyze plans and specifications, and excellent communication with project managers, subcontractors, and clients to support successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Review architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other project documents to develop comprehensive scope and quantity takeoffs.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, including materials, labor, equipment, subcontractor pricing, and overhead for both commercial and residential projects.
- Develop and maintain unit cost databases, assemblies, and estimating templates to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier bids; build and maintain strong vendor relationships.
- Coordinate with preconstruction, project management, and field teams to verify constructability, schedule impacts, and value engineering opportunities.
- Identify and documented assumptions, exclusions, and risk factors in estimates and present findings and recommendations to leadership and clients.
- Support bid and proposal preparation, including cost narratives, bid forms, and submission requirements.
- Track bid results and perform post-bid analysis to refine estimating practices and update historical cost data.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting during project preconstruction and transition to operations as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience in construction estimating.
- 3+ years of estimating experience in commercial and residential construction, with direct experience estimating drywall and interior finishes.
- Strong proficiency with takeoff and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Sage Estimating, or similar) and MS Office (Excel required).
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction methods, materials, productivity rates, and local labor markets.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously.
- Proven experience soliciting and evaluating subcontractor quotes and negotiating pricing.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and to perform quantity takeoffs accurately.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced preconstruction environment.
