Full time. Reports to the Senior Pastor.

Trinity United Methodist Church is a large congregation in Tallahassee with an annual operating budget of approximately $2.5 million, two mission churches, and a preschool. We are seeking a Controller who will help us steward what has been entrusted to us with accuracy, care, and integrity.

The Controller oversees the church's financial management, budgeting, accounting, and reporting, ensuring fiscal integrity, transparency, and compliance. The position also carries responsibility and management oversight for offerings and deposits, payroll and benefits administration, credit card administration, and stewardship and pledges. The ordinary work of the role includes the general ledger, monthly bank reconciliations, accounts payable, contribution and financial reporting, and all mandated Annual Conference reporting related to the position. The Controller works closely with the Director of Operations, serves as the primary staff liaison to the Finance Committee, and provides financial reporting to the Executive Church Council and its committees.

We are looking for a bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university and three years of professional accounting or auditing experience, together with a strong command of accounting principles and regulatory requirements, clear and professional communication, exceptional attention to detail, proficiency with accounting and financial management software, and the ability to turn complex financial data into recommendations our leadership can act on. Integrity, discretion, and a commitment to confidentiality matter here as much as technical skill.
